Since the introduction of the Federal Cancer Registration Act (CRA) in 2020, all cancer cases and information on diagnosis and treatment have been recorded in Switzerland. This enables nationwide evaluations of healthcare for tumour patients.
The analyses are carried out specifically for different types of cancer using defined indicators. Where possible, these are based on nationally and internationally recognised indicators from the fields of epidemiology, quality assurance, certification and research. This allows the results from Swiss cancer registry data to be compared with data from other countries, hospitals or tumour centres.
The evaluations provide a basis for decision-making for political decision-makers, specialists from clinics and research, and patients, enabling them to assess the quality of healthcare and identify areas where action is needed in prevention, early detection and treatment.
Analyses of indicators on breast cancer
The National Agency for Cancer Registration (NACR) has evaluated indicators from Swiss cancer registry data on over 20,000 cases of breast cancer and precancerous breast lesions from 2020 to 2022. A total of 38 indicators evaluated reveal important findings on breast cancer care in Switzerland.
